Reading - Evaluate Texts

Evaluate Texts Blog Post template

In reading we have been learning to….Apply some criteria to evaluate texts e.g accuracy of information and presence of bias.

We have been evaluating texts against the following four criteria:
  1. Readability
  2. Accuracy
  3. Relevance
  4. Quality of language/ information.

These documents show evidence of my learning during this unit:

  Describing Authors Purpose

 Criteria to Evaluate texts

Evaluating A Range of texts

My Next Step: Is to continue to apply this new knowledge and evaluate texts as I read them, checking for readability, accuracy, relevance and quality of language/ information

Definitions
Void: an empty space or vacuum.

Fluorescent: able to give off visible light after being exposed to a source of heat, light, or other form of energy

Vulnerable: able to be hurt or injured

Interconnected: to connect or cause to be connected one to the other or others.

Seldom: not often; rarely.

Is a void messy? Why or why not?
No because it’s an empty space where there is nothing to get messy.
Which color is the most fluorescent at night? Why?
White because the moon is white and the moon shines on everything and makes it white.
Why are elderly people more vulnerable than children? Why?
Because most elderly are older are often living in rural areas.
Which is more interconnected;  a vine or a dandelion? Why?
Dandelion because as soon as somebody sees a dandelion they will pick it up and and be connected with it straight away.
Which is more seldom; the Olympics or an election in NZ? Why?
Olympics because elections are much more often in New Zealand.

Word Relationships

How might each pair of words be connected?
Vulnerable/Fluorescent
Sometimes being in a dark place with some light can make you vulnerable because the light hurts your eyes sometimes.

Being space can be interconnected like the caves there are lots of paths that are interconnected

Extended Writing
Think of a time when you felt as though you were in a void or when you saw something that happens seldom. Write a paragraph about this.
When I went outside to get a drink I felt like I was the only one there and I was going into a place with nothing in the area.

Year ⅞ - I can use appropriate skills and technologies to find and use a range of texts for specific purposes.

For my “Evaluating Leaders” research I have been researching about…Taylor Swift & Richie McCaw

During this unit I have had to use a range of strategies to find the information I needed on Google. This includes: Research, Cross-Checking, Referencing.

List strategies you used here Key words Strengths, Achievements

I have achieved this goal because… I am able to Reference my work

My next step is to set a new reading goal.
